I built a foundation with a crop plot on top and pipes with a rain water catcher. It auto-decayed even tho I pass by it daily and feed the plant species x at least once a week. I built a foundation and placed campfires and mortal&pestles on it. Also a sign saying "unlocked" to show I was sharing my stuff. It auto-decayed at the same time.

Tek plots allow the crop to be considered in sunlight, so you can build a farm in a cave and put a greenhouse around it to get the greenhouse effect. The real answer is crops cant grow in caves (unless the cave has little sun beams coming from its ceiling). however tek crop plots dont have such problem and can grow in caves just fine.
